Bull Lake Dam, constructed from 1936 to 1938, stands proudly within the Wind River Indian Reservation in Wyoming. Starting in 2018, a dam safety project aimed to replace the spillway and reduce failure risks. Investigations found seepage eroding the spillway's foundation and severe cracks in the piers. The new spillway, featuring a state-of-the-practice labyrinth weir, is now complete, optimizi...
Clean, Drain, Dry - The Mussel Dogs of New Melones

Invasive mussels pose a significant risk to our lakes, rivers, and water infrastructure. Dreissena polymorpha (zebra mussel) and Dreissena rostriformis “bugensis” (quagga mussel) can rapidly infest aquatic systems, leading to costly irreversible damage. Invasive mussels often live in obscurity around watercraft, making it important to always clean, drain, and dry your vessel when leaving any bo...

BIL and IRA Update #12 for Stakeholders
My grandfather and uncles all worked on this site delivering concrete supplies and my grandpa started his trucking company with 90%of the fleet running around the Columbia dam site at the time. Later on they were able to work on the Hoover dam. I remember pitchers of the trucks on each dam hanging in my grandpa's home office. I got to listen to the story's of these massive projects and the struggles they faced getting materials to and from these places and shutting down the business to serve in the Pacific theater and on the European front lines. These men were the most productive generation that ever walked this earth and the work they did is still serving us well. Hat's off to the hardest working generation for the job well done. And yes there are men buried in the concrete in both of those dams according to my grandpa's stories of eye witness account's. Hoover dam is said to have 20 bodies within it's footprint and the Columbia dam only 2 bodies. At least that's what I was told in the 70s.
Nice footage….. let me know if you’d like a narrator like the old style Dept of Interior films……I’d be glad to narrate some of them for free to help out. DM me.
3rd time releasing this at least now yeah?
The next Carrington event will take down the electric empire for over 100 years. That's how vulnerable this industry is.
08:06: "Things do not happen, they are made to happen." Wise words; his words a few minutes later about the country "joining together in a forward movement" are relevant 60+ years later. Excellent, inspirational speech. Kennedy was a charismatic speaker and made his points without a lot of droning on. ✌️ ☮️ 🇺🇸
My aunt has been a engineer there for years😊
California delivers 9 million acre feet of water to Central Valley farmers so they can grow Almonds in the desert. California produces 80% of the world’s almonds. No other agricultural product has been produced and exported at this level in human history, Google it. These water deliveries are three times the capacity of the State’s water storage system. Water is moved south through the State’s water conveyance system, excess storm runoff replenishes the Kern water bank, an aquifer in Kern and Tulare County where it is sold to L.A. during drought years and largely used to irrigate Almond trees. 200,000 acres of almonds to be exact, that is 300 square miles. As a result of this water transfer; six endemic fish species are extinct or threatened including the once thriving Chinook or King Salmon which was a multibillion dollar Commercial fishery. As water deliveries increased around the turn of the century the Salmon population declined and now is reduced to a small spawning stock, just enough to satisfy the Federal Government and EPA. This is not about fish or water storage; this is about our State Legislature selling off our Public Trust and Natural Resource. Water deliveries equal 10 billion dollars in revenue for California, however; the environment is compromised and our state's resource is being exploited. There is not a water shortage in California, the state created the drought narrative, billionaire almond growers benefit while the public blindly accepts the perpetual drought narrative, that farmers are struggling and we must conserve. Grand Coulee Dam is so fascinating. Touring the dam and watching the laser light show is such a great way to learn about the area.
Conservation and investment in the future are now both considered "false" and "woke" in our modern Conservative society. The Dark Ages have begun. :-(
How to ruin the environment for years.
despicable what they did to the native tribes
And now we’re a failing empire lost in denial.
"On time and under budget". A phrase that NEVER happens anymore.
I grew up at the south end of Banks Lake in Coulee City. The dam was just a regular thing to see to me. As a child I failed to see the significance in it even though my family was contracted by the Bureau of Reclamation to maintain the barrier nets used to keep fish and debris out of the headwaters of the canal system that fed the entire Columbia Basin Irrigation Project. We used to be able to drive across the dam back then, too.
Tear out the dams! Im not an environmentalist, liberal democrats by large percentages live downstream!😈 um, i mean the salmon need the river unobstructed man!
It's time to remove the dam
Great job Billy from an old HVTF biologist from years ago.
It's so low
You guys are full of it. If mussels were a threat then they would have spread somewhere in the last 20 years and they haven't. No inspections at any of the Northern lakes in this time frame and nothing has been spread. Now allegedly someone found some mussels in the delta and these fools are shutting down the lakes or making it nearly impossible to put a boat on em. This reminds me of the insane covid restrictions. And Lady, do you actually believe that dog can sniff out a microscopic mussel or two?? What a money grab at $60K a dog.
They've been raising awareness for the last 17 years. Most people clean up their boats after launching. I don't know how long the dogs have been around. I know Texas scientists seem to believe they can sniff them out. There are dogs that can sniff out bacteria. Idk I'm not an expert on that.
@@JayM-ww4cp It's crazy how the public blindly buys into everything the state says. It's all about money and control of our water and now they have it because evidently just about everyone believes this nonsense. Where did common sense go?
Nice new money grab California
How it works,AtoZ water rescue two teens duck hunting drowned three days ago oroville, after bay any information would help where the water inters and exits.oroville search and resue.good citizen
I personally think decon sites should be a %100 regular practice at each lake in the state(let alone country). They should also be %100 compensated(free) by the state, since they refuse or couldn't regualte out of country shipping vessels. Personally I don't think any foreign boats should be crossing over the freshwater line to begin with, let alone pumping freshwater discharge into a foreign countries deltas. There are tons of other species to decon for and this should be a regular practice, and the state should protect their waterways. Simple as that... its just HOT WATER...
Learn to decontaminate the infrastructure as other states have done⁉️ Impossible to stop evolution 🧬. Cute dogs though 👌
How about just removing the dams and allow them to return to there original spawning grounds
If you support sovereign Nations like the Yakama Nation why won't your agency honor the treaties and good neighbor relations by freeing Celilo Falls?
Made by convicts imprisoned for nothing, and ruin the salmon run for thousands of native tribes
Jerry Kelso, It was nice seeing in the video. I have good memories of you during my time at the Third Powerhouse Construction Office. I ended up managing submarine structures at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. It was a great job. You got me started remodeling homes as a hobby and I ended up living on Colvos Passage near Olalla Washington. I guess I could never get Puget Sound and the salt water out of my blood.
Are the security guards or police
So are they cops or security guards
I am local to this area and I fish New Melones all the time and I have never seen these inspection stations. Where are they located and when are they used? Now that the Golden Mussel has been found in the delta are they going to expand the use of mussel sniffing dogs and are these dogs able to sniff out the Golden Mussel?
Same ⁉️ Local angler, never been inspected anywhere but clearlake! Heard of lots of people launching there early this month! Best to practice is to learn how to decontaminate the infrastructure ❗ Mother nature will evolve and conquer ❗ Darn cute dogs 🐶 though
It's all the bass boats from else where in the country that brought those mussels to the West Coast
If they're here they came from China. 20 years ago when this mussel deal got started the state was afraid of them spreading from lake to lake. Out of the 15 lakes or so that I fish nothing has spread or been detected in this time frame and there's really been no inspections on these lakes. This includes New Melones. Boats are not spreading them.
Your a moron
Do you know why there is a big V in a mountain ? Because water... Water finds the path of least resistance as it cuts down to the bedrock and that's all the further it can go... When the water comes high it cuts out Georges !!!....
Dope, didn't know you guys have a channel.
We used to be a 'can do' nation. Now, when any project-big or small- is proposed, people come out of the woodwork to explain why it shouldn't be done, and unfortunately those voices prevail. The fact that NASA's biggest program is a return to the moon is a testament to how low our ambitions have sunk.
I think because we used to use slave labour and then the prison system as a type of free labour by locking up people for petty crimes with high sentence times an hard labor
Native Americans and Salmon don't think so.....
They should make a fish ladder.
America still does the most amazing things on earth, the internet, iPhone, space travel...we own the world's culture. Name a Chinese band?
Bands ? The Chinese whether u want to admit it or not a decades ahead of us in there infrastructure just look at there new high speed rails that run the length of a whole continent and skyscrapers in every city meanwhile small towns and large city's in America are dying because we give all are money away for war and a defense budget to police the world I'm with trump we got to stay out of other people's wars
I lived in Redding at the time my Dad said let's go to the Airport to see him President Kennedy in a black Lincoln continental drove-by everybody open the car door and waved at us I will never forget that feeling.😊
If it's man-made, it's garbage 🗑 not a marvel.
this video is really impressive and the production quality is top-notch! however, i can't help but wonder if the environmental impact of such massive projects like the Grand Coulee Dam is often overlooked. it seems like we focus so much on the engineering feats but maybe not enough on what they mean for local ecosystems?
It had massive consequences for towns in the way of the new lake and river systems and fish runs and native Americans
